Super Sloppy Joes
I grew up on sloppy joes from a packet. Travis grew up on the ones from a can. Ho-hum and woah salty! In an effort to get away from overly processed foods, I decided to try to make my own. It was WAY easier than I thought it would be! I even ground my own beef for this recipe, which by the way is also incredibly easy if you have the attachment for your mixer!

Back to Basics : Beef Stock
So here we go with the next installment of Back to Basics. For those of you just joining, I like to post these über simple recipes that I believe everyone should know how to make. So far, we've done Vanilla Syrup to naturally flavor your coffee, Scrambled Eggs so you never have rubbery eggs again, and 10 Minute Croutons, which use hot dog buns to whip these up for salads and wraps.

Aussie Beef Pie
Today, my friends, I've got an Australian original for you! Hand held pies were everywhere in Sydney. It seemed like they were being sold in every convenience store, fast food joint and 5 star restaurant. There's even bakeries dedicated to making only pies- in just about any flavor you could ever hope for. Thai chicken, curry beef, roasted vegetable, feta with spinach, mushroom and sausage.... the combinations were endless!

Back to Basics : 10 Minute Croutons
So the other day, when I was making the No Guilt Caesar Dressing, I realized I did not have any croutons in the house! Now I don't know about you, but for me, Caesar salad without fresh croutons is just sad and plain wrong.

No Guilt Caesar Dressing & Wraps
Hi, y'all, I am back! Not by choice, of course. Vacations are never as long as you'd like them to be, right? We got back from Sydney and I went straight back into a duty day followed by 2 night shifts. I also caught a cold the last day or so of the trip, so my taste buds have been hibernating waiting for this annoying virus to go away. So, in combination with my diet of tea and orange juice for the cold and complete confusion my body is going through because of the switch back to night shift, I honestly haven't made anything beyond a turkey sandwich in the week we've been back.

Apple Pie French Toast
Today is Travis' birthday (as I post this, it's Aug 4 in Japan), so for a special birthday breakfast, I decided to make his all time favorite: stuffed french toast. My beloved husband would probably eat stuffed french toast every day of the week if I decided to make it for him. Each time he sees it on a menu in a restaurant, it's automatically the order of the day. Strawberry filling seems to be the usual favorite, however I think I prefer this homemade version with apples. To me, the strawberry filling never tastes right- it seems fake somehow, because it probably isn't lovingly homemade with fresh berries.

Breaded Halibut with Chipotle Mayo
I was kind of lacking inspiration for dinner last night. I had cleaned the house from top to bottom all day and been in the kitchen messing up a chocolate cupcake recipe since I didn't have enough eggs. I needed something quick, something light, something not chicken or beef.
